Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about affiliate tracking, campaign setup, and using BATracker.
Tracking
How does click tracking work?
When a user clicks your campaign URL, the tracker logs the visit with all available data (IP, device, browser, geo, referrer, etc.), generates a unique click ID, and redirects the user to your landing page or offer. The click ID is preserved throughout the funnel for conversion attribution.
What is a postback URL?
A postback URL (also called S2S or server-to-server tracking) is a URL your affiliate network calls when a conversion occurs. It includes the click ID and payout information, allowing the tracker to match the conversion to the original click without relying on cookies or pixels.
How do I set up conversion tracking?
1. Create your offer in the tracker and note the postback URL format.
2. In your affiliate network dashboard, find the postback/S2S settings.
3. Paste your tracker's postback URL, replacing tokens with the network's equivalents.
4. Test by generating a test conversion.
The standard postback URL format is:
https://your-domain.com/postback?clickid={click_id}&payout={payout}
What is the difference between visits and clicks?
Visits (also called campaign clicks) are counted when someone opens your tracking URL — this is the entry point into your funnel. Clicks (also called LP clicks) are counted when someone clicks a CTA on your landing page to go to the offer. The ratio of LP clicks to visits gives you your Landing Page CTR.
Campaigns
How do I split test landing pages?
When creating or editing a campaign, add multiple landing pages and assign a weight to each one. The tracker will distribute traffic according to these weights. For example, giving Lander A a weight of 50 and Lander B a weight of 50 will split traffic evenly. Monitor the Reports page to compare performance and find winners.
What are Sub IDs used for?
Sub IDs (sub1–sub20) are customizable tracking parameters you can attach to your campaign URLs. They carry data from your traffic source (like zone ID, creative ID, placement, keyword, etc.) into the tracker for granular reporting. Configure your traffic source macros in the sub ID fields when setting up your campaign.
How does geo-targeting work?
Geo-targeting is configured through Flows. Create a flow with rules that evaluate the visitor's country, region, or city. Each rule can point to a different path (combination of landers and offers). For example, route US traffic to a US-specific offer and UK traffic to a UK-specific offer. The tracker determines location using the visitor's IP address.
Technical
How do I set up a custom tracking domain?
Go to Settings → Domains → Add Domain. Enter your domain name (e.g., track.yourdomain.com), then configure DNS:
1. Add a CNAME record for your subdomain pointing to our servers.
2. Add a TXT verification record.
3. Click "Verify" in the tracker.
4. SSL is automatically provisioned after verification.
Is my data secure?
Yes. We use AES-256 encryption for sensitive data at rest, TLS for all data in transit, CSRF protection, Content-Security-Policy headers, and input sanitization on all API endpoints. Passwords are hashed with bcrypt with randomly generated salts. We never store raw credentials.
What happens if the tracker goes down?
BATracker is built on fault-tolerant infrastructure. Click processing is buffered so no data is lost during brief outages. Health checks and automated alerts monitor system status 24/7. In a worst-case scenario, traffic is redirected directly to your offer URL to minimize revenue loss.
